it’s time to celebrate hanukkah with a newbie…

so, this evening is the 4th candle in the “Festival of Lights”. i am not jewish, but i am interested to learn more about what hanukkah means and why it is celebrated. a friend that i work with explained to me that some of the jewish culture celebrates hanukkah as more of a cultural holiday, and some take on a more religious spirit for the festivities. either way, it is so great to learn and take part in the celebration. this year, my desk not only has mini christmas trees and pine cones, but also a Menorah complete with blue birthday candles. i can’t leave them burning all night since no one would be here to be sure the office doesn’t catch fire, but every evening i light the next candle and let it burn for a few moments to celebrate jewish culture and history. happy hanukkah, everyone!
